One of the seven wonder’s of the world and the World Heritage site as declared by UNESCO, The Taj Mahal at Agra, India, is a sight to behold with its distinctive Mughal architecture. This marble edifice is an ode of love built by an emperor for his beloved queen.
Thousands of visitors have it on their itinerary whether nationally or internationally to see for themselves this beautiful mausoleum at least once in their lifetime. The tale of undying love draws visitors’ year around, whether they be plebeian or state dignitaries.
I guess no love story can compare with the story of Emperor Shah Jahan’s tryst for 22 years to build a monument that could eternalize the memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal for posterity.
About The Taj Mahal :
Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, the Taj Mahal was built in the distinctive mughal style. The Taj Mahal is made up of white marble and consists of a symmetrical building resting on a square platform with an arch shaped doorway and a large dome on top. The Tomb lies within this structure. Four minarets frame the Tomb. It is said that Gold and semi- precious stones adorned the exterior structure of the Taj Mahal and were a sight to behold making the Taj Mahal shine in all its beauty and glory. The materials used for construction were sourced from all over India and Asia, whether it be the white marble or the jade and sapphire that was used to adorn the monument. However presently what remains are the carvings and calligraphy.
Catch hold of the guides when you visit The Taj Mahal, they can be hired and they will narrate to you the stories and the History of this monument.
